Cyber security for manufacturing businesses is an important consideration for every business, particularly those that rely on technology to keep their operations running.

For Woodcock & Wilson, Ewing IT introduced additional security measures to help identify suspicious activity, protect user accounts and reduce exposure to potential cyber threats.

The challenge

Woodcock & Wilson, an industrial fan manufacturer, has worked with Ewing IT since 2019.

The business needed reliable IT support alongside its in-house IT technician, as well as additional protection for its network, systems and users. With staff accessing business systems and email, identifying suspicious activity and reducing exposure to malicious emails were important parts of its security requirements.

How Ewing IT helped

Ewing IT introduced a new cyber security system to help Woodcock & Wilson identify and respond to potential threats.

The solution includes:

  • Unusual sign-in monitoring: Notifications when an employee's account signs in from an unusual location.

  • Suspicious activity alerts: Helping the business identify potentially fraudulent account activity.

  • Email security: Filtering out the majority of unwanted and dangerous emails.

  • Ongoing IT support: Providing assistance to investigate and address potential issues.

  • Off-site backups: Daily backups of server and Microsoft 365 data as an additional layer of protection.

When an unusual sign-in is detected, the business can check whether the activity is legitimate and take appropriate action.

The results

The additional cyber security measures have given Woodcock & Wilson greater visibility of unusual sign-in activity and helped reduce the volume of unwanted and dangerous emails reaching users. Combined with ongoing IT support and daily off-site backups, these measures form part of a wider approach to protecting the business's technology and data.

Ian Crum, Managing Director, praised the team's expertise and friendly approach to IT support:

"They are experts in their field and excel in providing a human friendly approach to IT"
